Aims and Scope

Technology Review for Carbon Neutrality (TRCN) is a multidisciplinary, open-access journal hosted by Tsinghua University to provide a global platform of communication and collaboration on carbon neutrality and energy system transformation. Moving beyond traditional academic journals, it serves a high-level global audience of decision-makers in academia, industry, investment, and policy, and it aims to track global clean technologies across the innovation lifecycle, catalyze global innovation ecosystems, and shape global agenda and discourse on carbon neutrality and energy system transformation.

Fields of submission

The journal welcomes original, cutting-edge, and strategic perspective/review/research articles addressing advances in science and technology -industry – policy - social innovations related to carbon neutrality and energy system transformation. Specifically, the innovations may include (but not limited to): wind, solar, hydro, nuclear, biomass, fossil fuels; new power system; energy storage; hydrogen; carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS); carbon sinks; industrial decarbonization; energy efficiency; zero-carbon building; urban planning; zero-carbon transportation; energy system modelling; AI; advanced materials; critical minerals; circular economy; climate science; carbon governance mechanisms; climate governance; climate adaptation and resilience.

Types of submission

TRCN welcomes submissions of the following main types:

  • Perspective: high-level articles with strategic, visionary thinking and proposals (main text of approximately 1,500-4,000 words, 1-3 tables/figures, 10+ references are advised).
  • Review: cutting-edge, authoritative summary of the development and challenges of decarbonization, often covering technology, industry, and policy developments and offering policy recommendations (main text of approximately 4,000-6,000 words, 3-8 tables/figures, 100+ references are advised).
  • Research article: original research that offers a compelling case in point to the global discourse on carbon neutrality (main text of approximately 3,000-6,000 words, 3-8 tables/figures, 50+ references are advised).
  • Feature: in-depth science journalism reporting on emerging industry trends, innovative projects, key people, and local voices (main text of approximately 1,000-4,000 words, 1-3 tables/figures, 10+ references are advised).
  • Book review (text length of approximately 1,000 words is advised)

All submissions should demonstrate accuracy, originality, cutting-edge knowledge and insight, and strategic relevance.
