Special Issue on Traffic Safety and System Resilience

Theme: Traffic Safety and System Resilience

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the upcoming Special Issue of the Journal of Highway and Transportation Research and Development (English Edition) (HTRD), to be published in Issue 4 of 2026. This special issue will focus on the dual and interlinked themes of Traffic Safety and System Resilience, two foundational pillars for building modern, intelligent, and sustainable transportation systems.

Traffic Safety focuses on dynamic coordination and risk control among road users, vehicles, infrastructure, and environmental factors to reduce accidents and improve travel security.
System Resilience emphasizes the adaptive regulation, rapid response, and efficient recovery of transportation systems in the face of emergencies, external shocks, and extreme environmental conditions.

Together, these themes provide a unified perspective to enhance the reliability, adaptability, and robustness of future transportation systems.

Objective

This special issue aims to foster interdisciplinary research and practical innovations that address the challenges of traffic safety and resilience in both urban and regional transportation networks. We welcome high-quality contributions that advance theoretical models, applied technologies, and data-driven strategies to improve the robustness and reliability of transport systems under stress.

Scope:

We welcome submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  1. Traffic Safety Assurance and Resilience Strategies in Complex Mountainous and Coastal Environments
  2. Traffic Operation Regulation and Emergency Management for Extreme Climate and Sudden Events
  3. AI and Big Data-Based Accident Risk Prediction and Dynamic Response Methods
  4. Traffic System Anomaly Detection and Dynamic Resilience Assessment
  5. Operational Recovery Path Optimization and Emergency Resource Scheduling for Urban Agglomerations and Regional Transportation Networks
  6. Modeling of Natural Factors (High Temperature, Heavy Rainfall, Landslides) Impact on Traffic Behavior
  7. Applications of Digital Twin and Multi-agent Simulation in Resilient Transportation Systems

Submission Guidelines:

Manuscripts should be original and not previously published elsewhere.
