Call for Applications: Editorial Board Membership- Journal of Otology

To further enhance the academic impact and international visibility of the Journal of Otology, and in alignment with the journal’s strategic development and best practices in scholarly publishing, the Editorial Office is pleased to invite applications for membership on the new Editorial Board. Qualified scholars from around the world are warmly encouraged to apply.

1. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to academic integrity and ethical conduct in research and publishing;
  • Hold a senior academic or professional position (Associate Professor or equivalent) and be actively engaged in clinical practice or scientific research in otology, audiology, or closely related fields;
  • Have a sustained record of research productivity, evidenced by at least five peer-reviewed articles published as first or corresponding author in SCI-indexed journals within the past five years;
  • Possess excellent manuscript review skills and a demonstrated commitment to high-quality editorial work;
  • Agree to comply with the journal’s editorial policies, publication ethics guidelines (including COPE standards), and be able to fulfill the responsibilities of an Editorial Board member in a timely manner.

2. Key Responsibilities

Editorial Board members are expected to:

  • Actively participate in Editorial Board meetings and collaborate closely with the editorial office;
  • Provide strategic advice on the journal’s academic direction, content priorities, and quality improvement;
  • Conduct timely, fair, and constructive peer reviews of submitted manuscripts;
  • Contribute high-quality manuscripts and actively solicit or recommend outstanding submissions from the international research community;
  • Promote the journal within national and international academic networks to enhance its visibility, impact, and reputation;
  • Support the editorial office in other matters related to journal development.

3. Scope of Disciplines

Applications are particularly welcome from scholars with expertise in the following areas (including but not limited to):

  • Otology and Neurotology: cochlear implantation, hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, and Menière’s disease;
  • Auditory Neuroscience: cochlear physiology, auditory processing, hair cell regeneration, and gene therapy;
  • Skull Base Surgery: acoustic neuroma, lateral skull base tumors, and facial nerve disorders;
  • Pediatric Otology: congenital hearing loss, pediatric cochlear implantation, and developmental audiology;
  • Hearing Restoration and Regeneration: stem cell therapy, gene editing, inner ear regeneration, and auditory prostheses;
  • Clinical Audiology: diagnostic audiology, vestibular assessment, and aural rehabilitation;
  • Ototoxicity and Prevention: drug-induced hearing loss, noise-induced hearing loss, and otoprotection.

4. Application and Appointment Process

(1) Application Channels

  • Reappointment: Current Editorial Board members may apply for reappointment.
  • Peer Nomination: Current Editorial Board members may nominate qualified colleagues (with the nominee’s prior consent).
  • Direct Application: New candidates may apply directly by submitting the required materials.

(2) Required Materials

All applicants should submit the following documents to joto301@vip.163.com. Please use the email subject line: “Journal of Otology Editorial Board Application -Full Name -Institution”

  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV, updated within the past six months);
  • A statement of contribution (maximum 500 words) outlining your proposed priorities, anticipated contributions, and how you would support the journal’s development;
  • A declaration of any potential conflicts of interest.

(3) Appointment Procedure

Applications will be reviewed by the Editorial Office based on the eligibility criteria, the candidate’s expertise, and the current needs of the journal. A shortlist will be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief for final review and approval. The composition of the new Editorial Board will be announced in due course. Successful candidates will receive formal appointment letters.

The new term will officially commence in September 2026 and last for three years.

5. Timeline

  • Application deadline: 30 June 2026
  • Review and selection: July -August 2026
  • New Editorial Board takes office: September 2026
